Campaign ‘Mobility behaviour and impact on health’
How do people perceive the impact that noise and fine particles on their day-to-day trips have on them and does this lead to a change in their behaviour?
As road users, we are affected on our everyday trips through the city by our environment, which limits our feeling of well-being, mobility decisions and route selection. This campaign is dedicated to the topic of health in urban mobility. In order to face the impact on health of everyday trips in the future, the following is to be investigated: how is the impact on health of everyday trips perceived and handled? How is everyday mobility organised in times of digital communication? And what affect does this knowledge about personal impacts have on mobility behaviour?
A healthy city needs healthy mobility – in order to promote this, we are researching mobility behaviour and health in Berlin. An active participation in our campaign increases knowledge about current mobility behaviour in Berlin. For those participating, an active participation promotes knowledge about their own mobility behaviour and helps them to better understand the impacts of everyday trips.
Task
The test persons use the app for their everyday trips and subsequently answer questions on the trips they have covered. At the end of the survey, group interviews are carried out in which the surveyed data is discussed together.
For example, the following aspects are surveyed while using the MovingLab:
- Type of route planning
- Subjective impact
- Source of impact
Perspectives
How can mobile and digitally available information about the impact on health of environmental stressors (fine particles, noise, heat) contribute to mobility which is more conductive to health in urban environments?
- How do multimodal road users make use of digital mobility information for their everyday mobility in terms of modes of transport or route selection and which additional information is applied in decision-making?
- How is the effect on health by environmental stressors perceived during everyday mobility and how does that affect mobility behaviour?
The project will investigate how people perceive the impact of noise and fine particles on their everyday trips and if this influences their behaviour. Furthermore, it will be investigated how information about the personal impact of everyday trips and possible consequences on health have to be communicated in order to support a more healthy mobility behaviour.
